Weekly Post (Ashley)

Hello all!

Unfortunately I don't have much to show for this week... I've got a couple concept designs I'm hoping to further develop and I've spent a sizable amount of time designing some characters for a picture book but nothing really to show for it unfortunately. But here's what I have done:

Quite a while I got into the whole animie-ish style and decided to give it a try again. Here's some progress shots as I went. However It started to go a bit pear-shaped after a while...

Initial sketch. Doesn't look to bad at this point.

Outlined the character. Still not quite what I wanted it to be

And after a coat of pencil lead. If I were to do it again I would pick a different palette for sure. and just some little things every here and there really bug me about it... for instance the sword hilt is really off from where its supposed to be. But overall; lessons were learnt :p

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to post anything next Sunday as I'll be off too Timbuck-Too for the week.  I'll either post some material early or extra material when I get back :)

Also and more importantly; I've heard of interest being shown by potential guest artists from my college Tim, but unfortunately he doesn't have the time to post the material. So if you're interested in having your work posted please contact me at ashley@martybugs.net or +Ashley Pot . We'd be happy to post your art for you :)

have a great week :)

Featured Artist: Jackie

We now have our first featured artist! :D Jackie has kindly allowed us to post some of her work on our blog :)

"Hi, I'm Jackie! As an artist, I am inspired by sad lyrics and an overactive brain. The bulk of my drawing is done during school hours (*gasp* the horror!) and on the bus. Lately I've been experimenting with a combination of drawing and photo editing apps, such as Afterlight, Aviary, and A Beautiful Mess - they're great starting points, especially if you just like to dabble!"

If you want to see more of her work you can find her at +Jackie vdS on Google + and jackievds98 on Instagram.

Anyway; to the art :p
A cute little badger :D wish I could draw little animals like this :3

A really cool way to present a quote. I find art like this is a great way to emphases on specific words :)

My kind of cartoon style :) reminds me a lot of adventure time :D

Some experimentation using filters by the looks of things. Pretty interesting; I'm thinking of giving it a try myself :)

This is probably my favorite. I have no idea how she did this and made it look so good :) the lettering looks great!

Thanks to +Jackie vdS for letting us post her art! We really appreciate it :) If you're interested yourself or know someone else who may be interested in being featured on our blog please contact us! we love to keep a bit of diversity among the art we post and Tim and I can't keep it up ourselves :P

I personally haven't done much in the past week.. but I do have some ideas I'm planning on working on :) Depending how that goes I might do a mid week post.

Have a great a week guys :)

Weekly Post (Ashley)

Hello all!

After many tedious hours, I have finally finished my floral skull graphic :D over twenty hours went into this and I'm quiet pleased with the result :) Tell me what you think :D

And I have some exiting news! It took a while but Disparity is now on RedBubble! for those who don't know, RedBubble is a website where people can post photos, art, graphics, etc. and then sell them to the international public. RedBubble allows for artist's work to be printed on t-shirts, canvas, bags, pillows and even bedding.

If you've never heard of it before and you're interested, I suggest taking a look:

http://www.redbubble.com/

and the link to Disparity's RB account:

http://www.redbubble.com/people/disparity

Disparity is also still looking for guest artists. If you're interested in having your work featured on our blog please ask! We'd be happy post your art for you :)

Also feel free to leave requests! I can't speak on behalf of Tim, but I'd love to draw something up for someone; perhaps even turn into a graphic! So if you have any ideas, please leave them in the comments :)

have a great week guys :)

Weekly Post (Ashley)

Hey guys :)

Sorry its a day late; but here is my weekly post :) I wasn't home for the weekend only just got back late last night.

and unfortunately I don't have much to show :( I did do some more work on the skull graphic, though that is proving to take longer then I'd like...

Progress on the skull graphic :) Really not 100% happy with the color of the leaves; I think I might redo them all which will take a while. BUT I am determined to finish this in the next few weeks.

The concept and the final product of a simple dragon graphic. Pretty easy and didn't take to long but I'm happy with the outcome :)

And a little something I put together as request of my sister. She wanted something she could print onto a t-shirt and gave me a few pointers; and this is what I came up with. The text is all just recolored or re textured but the pineapple was made by hand in power point (which ended up taking ALOT longer then it should have).

In the following weeks I'm actually considering having 'guest artists' on the blog. That was the original idea from the get-go but I haven't got around to it yet. So if your interested, please let me and Tim know via email, message, etc. and we'll be happy to post your art :)

Weekly Post (Ashley)

I'm finally finished school!! :D until next year anyway... but on the bright side I can actually get some stuff done now :)

Silki in the park. I really wanted to put more detail into the trees but alas, I couldn't be bothered... :P

A couple little acrylic paintings I did :) been dying to try them out for a month or so and finally got the chance :) Its pretty obvious I haven't painted in a while though :P If all goes to plan, I'll get some more practice in these holidays :)

sorry I don't really have anything else for show and tell... but in the following weeks I'm hoping to work some projects so I'll actually have something interesting for you guys :P

Have a great week :)

Fallout!

The apocalypse is upon us! Today I really needed something to draw and this is what came from all my brainstorming. Yes, the one side looks un-coloured but that's only due to the lighting at the time.  Not my best work... but not my worst! And if one looks closely... they may realize that hes using an American flag as a hood :D
Have a great day and great holidays to my classmates :)

God Bless

Misc Post!

Finally! A post from me! I haven't gotten round to drawing much lately but this is some stuff I've done throughout the year :D Up top here is a Batman costume I designed :) Yes, the photos look like crap, but I might get some better ones up soon!
As always, Jack Sparrow remains one of the coolest characters in the film industry!
A WoW (World of Warcraft) picture I drew a while back!
Me experimenting with things I havn't really used before... like anime, kissing and side-on positioning.
A page from my drawing book! I was experimenting with different styles of art here and they seemed to work quite well!
A closeup of my (elven?) fantasy character. Tell me what you think of my art guys!

Weekly Post (Ashley)

Hello all!

I'm sorry to say i haven't done anything all that innovative over the last week as exams have come up meaning I haven't had much time to make much :(

But here is what I do have:

I really loved making this little guy :) I also found it interesting playing with different opacity to show the light coming from the lantern.

Finished this little guy last night :) I might tweak it in the future but pretty happy with it :)

And more penguins :D The colonel (left) and captain (right). Name suggestions anyone?

And that's about it. My exams will be completed by the end of Wednesday and after that I'm free to do FINALLY do more arty stuff :D I've got some paints I need to use and I'm planning on finishing the skull graphic I started a while back. I've also got a couple other projects I'm hoping to do; the main one is a kids book that my youngest sister had the idea for and the plan is I do all the illustrations :)

And apologies for Tim's lack of art lately... he's been taking the exams a little more seriously then I have :P But I'll try bug him to post something in the near future. But no promises :P

Please leave feedback/suggestions!

hope you all have a great week :)

Weekly Post: Microsoft Office graphics (Ashley)

Hello All!

So last week was pretty hectic for me... a lot of assignments and a tonne of doctor's appointments. Though I didn't manage to get the time to use my water color pencils or my paints, I did manage to make a number of little graphics using Microsoft Office. Who would have thought Microsoft Word and PowerPoint would be so good for making pictures :P

I'm probably going to do some more stuff like this in the near future, so please leave suggestions!

NOTE: I'M LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS FOR THE PENGUIN'S NAMES... any ideas? Please leave a comment if you want to name one of those little guys :)

Anyway; here's some of the stuff I did over the last week:

A wolf in the tundra...

Penguin Mercenaries!!

My new Google Plus icon and a Pigeon

A little cartoon character I initially designed a year or so ago and finally managed to do him justice! Guys; meet Silki :)

A log cabin in the highlands. Actually quite happy how this one turned out... might turn it into a poster or something....

Weekly Post (Ashley)

Hey guys :)

reallllly sorry I didn't get round to posting anything Sunday. But I didn't forget! its just a day late... I've been really preoccupied lately and had half a dozen doctors appointments so I don't really have anything recent to show... :(
I got round to doing some concept sketches last week and that's actually all I did... really strange for me to only draw one page for a whole week :P

And because I don't have anything else from last week... heres a pic of a yin and yang/fire and ice symbol I drew in class:

And here's the concept stuff I did last week:

Have a great week guys! Hopefully I'll get around to doing some art-y stuff this week, but I've got even more appointments now and exams are just around the corner :S But I've got some acrylic paints and water color pencils I've being dying to use...

Two assassins, one artist

Two assassins, one artist.
Hey guys! This is my first real proper post to the blog (yay)!
These both took about 5 -6 hours to complete with ink and colouring.
Hope you like them and I'll try upload drawings every week if I can, like Ash. But hey, when exams are around the corner, you don't have much time to draw!

Arno - a French Assassin hailing from the 18th century during the French Revolution.
Ezio Auditore - an Italian assassin who lived way before Arno.

Floral Skull -progress update- (Ashley)

Now: I present to you one of my longer term projects I'm currently working on.

It's based on a sketch I did a few months back, and the aim is to develop it into a graphic. I've been trying to give it a bit more of a water color feel compare to the original.

I was hoping to have a LOT more of this done by now... but alas, time has not allowed for it. About 5- 6 hours worth of work on Photoshop so far and I've still got a way to go :P

I've finally finished the rose and vines after way to much tweaking and second-guessing myself. I can almost guarantee I'm going to fiddle with them some more later, but overall I'm pretty much done these components.

Please tell me what you think :) Tips, comments etc. are all very welcome :)

This is the original sketch I did a few months back
And here's what I've completed on the graphic so far

Also: I previously posted a progress update on this on my Google plus page (before the blog was functional)
https://plus.google.com/115066641373030512674/posts/iNxAQaJyf5f

~ I'm thinking of making a weekly contribution to the blog; probably on Sunday. But I'll see how I go. That's the plan, but for now I'm not making a commitment as the next few weeks are going to be hectic for me...

Anyway; hope you guys have a great week :) I'll try bug Tim to post something during the week, or maybe we'll get someone else to submit some work :D We'll see how we go :p

Random sketches (Ashley)

Might as well introduce myself i suppose:
If you don't know me, my name is Ashley and I hate talking about myself so I'll keep this brief :P I taught myself to sketch throughout the years because my best friend as a little kid was my cat :P I've won a couple of photo competitions but kinda lost interest in photography over the years. More recently I've been trying to make some graphics using Photshop and Autodesk Sketchbook. I've tried it before but I've been taking it a little more seriously of late.

I have no idea what i want to do when i leave school; a graphic designer seems like the backup option  at the moment, though I'm still really undecided...

So here's some of my kinda-recent work:

Sorry for the bad photo quality in some of these...
All of these were done during school when i should have been doing school stuff :p not my best work, but it gives a general idea of the stuff I do.

please leave feedback! I'd love to know what your opinion is :)

regards,
Ashley

Davy Jones (Tim)

This isn't the first time I've posted this drawing online, but its good way to start off (and it was the only decent drawing I had on my computer at the time)! I will be uploading more recent art once I get my scanner up and running.

-Tim

A bit about myself. I learned to draw simply by trying it out and practicing. I enjoy drawing cartoons and different characters from movies/games etc. I've recently started to ink and color my drawings, and it has worked well for me (so far :P)
I'm gonna go on to university to study psychology - what fun!

We now have a logo! :D pretty simplistic, and will probably be changed in the future. But for now, this is what the Disparity project is represented by!

The next few posts will be some content (hopefully). I'll put it past Tim and hopefully we can both post some of our work in the next few days :)

Please follow us and feel free to leave feedback or contact us; we'd love to know what you think :)

Ashley

Sunday 26 October 2014

Hello and welcome!

This is the very VERY early stages of this blog, but we'll give you a brief outline of the goal:

The idea is that we  both like to draw, paint etc. but both of us are hobby-ists and so decided to team up to produce enough regular content.

As Ash was talking about the idea with others however, someone asked if they could join in too. a little reluctant, he decided to try formulate an idea with Tim that resulted in the Disparity Art Project. The idea isn't exactly ground breaking; several small time artists can have their work posted here to result in regular content and a wider variety of content.

It's a little unclear as to what exactly we're going on about at the moment... but things will become clearer! We hope to start posting content as soon as the blog is functional (which will be asap).

thanks for paying this blog a visit in it's early stages!

~Ashley and Tim
